The ladies' team in Stonehaven is called Cowie Ladies Netball Team. They were formed way back in the summer of 2005... Getting on a bit now!

They sprang from a 10 week course that originally ran at the Stonehaven Leisure Centre, and once the course was over, there was enough enthusiasm left to start a new team.

The team entered into the Aberdeen and District league for the 2005 season, and were really quite pleased to find that they finished in mid-table obscurity by the end of the season. There were highs and lows during the 2005 / 2006 season, and that was merely over the choosing of kit.

Fortunately however, the kit issue was ironed out, and they now quite cheerfully play in black and red - red tops with black trim, black skirts with red panels, and delightful black gym knickers. The bibs are black with red lettering. The team just stopped short of only allowing players with either black or red hair to join, on account of the fact that you need at least 7 people in the team, and that extra rule would have left them with only 2 players.

The 2006 / 2007 season saw us entering a team into the league again, and we saw a period of huge growth in the club (numbers, not waistlines).

At the start of the 2007 / 2008 season, we were in the very fortunate position of having 2 teams in the district leagues and a recreational team as well. The Cowie Blacks team finished second in the 3rd division, and were promoted to the 2nd division for the next season, and the Cowie Reds team finished a very respectable fifth in the 3rd division.

The 2008 / 2009 season saw the Blacks finishing joint 3rd in the 2nd division, with the Reds in 6th place in the 3rd division. The Blacks retained their place in the 2nd division, and the Reds looked forward to another season in the third.

Ranks swelled for the 2009 / 2010 season, and Cowie entered a 3rd team into the leagues! Blacks finished 4th in a much enlarged second division, securing their place in the 2nd division for next season, with Reds finishing 6th in the enlarged 3rd division, and the Whites finishing their season in 9th place.

2010 / 2011 had Blacks staying in 2nd division and finishing a very respectable 5th in a close fought 2nd division, and Reds and Whites finished 6th and 8th respectively in the 3rd division, following a season of close matches, and excellent progress in both teams.
