Cowie Blacks hit back in local rematch

Cowie Blacks took the opportunity to redress the balance in their latest Aberdeen and District Netball Association Division 2 match against neighbouring rival Newtonhill’s Rebound.

Rebound with a number of former Cowie players in its ranks always makes for a tight competitive match and the last time these two teams met the nail biting sea saw game finished Rebound 32 Cowie 28. Their latest meeting proved equally as exciting with both teams fighting hard and grasping at every opportunity.

Cowie started with gusto and took an early lead after winning the toss and opting for first centre. Rebound however stayed in touch and the quarter ended with a narrow lead for Cowie 8-6.

Rebound hit back in the second quarter with a string of goals and Cowie were just able to keep pace thanks to the perseverance of the centre court players. They fought hard for every ball and kept feeding the ball into the circle. By half time the score was even at 14 all.

Both teams made half time changes but neither was able to make any headway as the teams matched each other goal for goal. Another tight quarter ended 23 all.

Rebound returned to their original shooting line up for the last quarter and quickly took the lead. However, Cowie took control and cranked up the pressure. Shooting by Claire Buckley was spot on and goal after goal went in as she took shots from well outside her comfort zone. With five minutes to go an injury forced the replacement of Rebound’s Wendy Watson and the team just couldn’t pull back Cowie’s lead. Final score Cowie Blacks 33 Rebound 28.

Claire Buckley’s stunning performance as Goal Shooter earned her the opposition’s vote for Cowie player of the match.

Cowie Blacks: Buckley, Corbett, Craig, Currie, Fry, Graham, McFadden
