Cowie Blacks Take on TNT for the Return Match
Cowie Blacks chalked up their fourth win in a row beating Aberdeen and District Netball Association’s division two leaders, Dundee’s TNT.
It was a close match when these teams met back in October, on that occasion TNT pulled away in the final minutes to win 33 –30. With more experience and some confident wins under their belt Cowie were out for victory from the whistle and quickly took a significant lead. Swift confident passing finished off with faultless shooting from Goal Shooter Claire Buckley ensured a 9 goals to 4 lead for Cowie by the end of the first quarter.
Cowie let the success of the first quarter go to their heads and literally threw away possession on countless occasions. However, Cowie’s defence remained firm and their attack broke through enough for them to extend their lead to 16 – 9 at half time.
With only seven players in each squad neither team had the luxury of substitutions. In a repeat of a previous tactic Cowie switched their Centre and Wing Defence to prevent fatigue in the centre court. This, along with the half time pep talk, had the desired effect and Cowie managed to take control of their game once more. TNT had little to hit back with despite some lovely linking passes. With their Goal Shooter obviously suffering from an existing injury TNT struggled to break through the solid Cowie defence. Despite a stutter in the shooting circle when the net seemed to evade Buckley, Cowie once again extended their lead to 25 –13.
TNT switched their Goal Defence to Goal Attack who in turn moved to Wing Attack for the last quarter. This proved a disastrous move as the almost impenetrable Cowie defence let very little past and any attack from TNT was quickly turned to Cowie’s advantage. In attack Buckley was back on form and the goals just kept going in. It was a devastating performance by Cowie and the final score of 37 – 16 earned Cowie 4 points and denied TNT the point available for achieving a half-score.
Claire Buckley made it a hat trick as player of the match after another stunning performance in the goal circle.
