The first quarter started well as Cowie Blacks were fortunate to win the toss up. Watson took the first centre pass with most passes directed to Corbett. The first centre pass by Cowie Blacks was swift and well co-ordinated and successfully passed to Browning and Buckley who scored the first goal of the match. RGU defended well with good circle movement in their goal third. Cowie Blacks played well with good defence also, and excellent mid court balance, spacing and good teamwork especially in their goal third. RGU made some great attempts at intercepting the ball but Cowie Blacks played a tough match. Abel made a great interception obtaining ball possession for Cowie Blacks and Graham defended well with good stretches. A few hasty passes were made by Cowie Blacks losing ball possession but Cowie Blacks dominated the first quarter. They scored 9 goals and RGU scored 5 goals.
RGU started this quarter with a successful centre pass and a fantastic goal. Graham continued to defend her opponent well. Forbes and her opponent took a toss up early on in the quarter but unfortunately Forbes lost the opportunity but RGU tossed the ball out of court ultimately giving Cowie Blacks play advantage which lead to a goal. RGU increased their defence in Cowie Blacks goal third. At one point Cowie Blacks struggled to get the ball around the circle due to such strong defence but Cowie Blacks passed the ball between relevant players and eventually scored and continued to notch up goals during the quarter. McFadden and Abel defended really well and Abel made a great interception, which won ball possession for Cowie Blacks leading to another goal by Buckley. The pace of the game was a little fast during this quarter with a few hasty passes made by Cowie Blacks which lost them ball possession on a few occasions but they played very well with short, sharp passes. Cowie Blacks scored 7 goals bringing the total score for this quarter to 16 goals. RGU scored 4 goals bringing their total score to 9.
Third Quarter
RGU proceeded to take the first centre pass but McFadden intercepted the ball from her opponent but the ball went out of court off the sideline and RGU took the throw in. Cowie Blacks gained possession again quickly after this. Cowie Blacks took the throw in from the sideline and drove the ball up the court. The team worked well with good short passes and good balance particularly in the centre and goal thirds and Browning scored another goal for Cowie Blacks. Forbes and her opponent took a toss up and Forbes managed to win ball possession. Forbes continued to play well with swift consistent movements on court. RGU gained possession of the ball but lost the opportunity to score on various occasions. Abel won ball possession in RGU’s goal third due to good interceptions and rebounds. This quarter saw some overcrowding on court by Cowie Blacks, however, their play was consistent throughout as they scored 6 goals in this quarter bringing their total score so far to 22. RGU made some good attempts to score but unfortunately failed to do so in this quarter.
The fourth quarter saw a good start for Cowie Blacks as Corbett gained possession of the ball in the centre third, but RGU intercepted the ball but unfortunately missed a goal opportunity. Abel caught the rebound and Browning scored a lovely goal for Cowie Blacks. RGU defended their opponents well. Cowie also continued to play well with good spacing and balance on court. Graham defended well in RGU’s goal third and Cowie Blacks scored some great goals from the outer circle. Boyes made a fantastic interception in the centre third gaining ball possession for Cowie Blacks. The ball was well held by Buckley but unfortunately RGU won the rebound. A toss up was taken between Corbett and her opponent, and Corbett won possession but RGU intercepted the ball but an immediate free pass was given to Cowie Blacks who drove the ball up the court but Cowie Blacks lost ball possession by hastily passing to their opponents. Both teams played well in this quarter. Cowie Blacks scored 7 goals bringing their final total score to 29 goals. RGU scored 4 goals bringing their final total score to 13. Lorna Graham was nominated player of the match for Cowie Blacks. Well done Lorna.
