Uni took first centre however Cowie quickly gained possession from a loose ball and took an early lead. With confidence high and vocal support from the side line, Cowie were communicating, passing well and making good space on the court. Goals were coming thick and fast at both ends, with Cowie defence working well on taking advantage of any loose balls. Marking was tight and the game was very evenly matched. Score at the end of the first quarter was 6 – 7 to Cowie.

Cowie made no changes but Uni made a few and, as a result, their defence were looking strong and marking closely. Good play ensued from both teams but uni were capitalising on any opportunities and lost balls. By the end of the 2nd quarter Cowie’s lead had been lost and score was 13 – 11 to Uni.

All change at half time, with only Katy Boyes and Becky Gordon remaining from 1st half for Cowie. This frantic quarter started, and remained at great speed with both teams fighting hard to keep possession. Play was hurried, with Cowie giving away a number of balls. Goals were evenly matched and Cowie were successful at rebounds in the circle. Such a close match was producing intense pressure. By the end of the 3rd quarter, Uni were maintaining their lead with 20 – 13.

Cowie found their feet again during the final quarter, and played confidently and comfortably, and were working well as a team. Confidence was raised with the 1st centre pass being converted from a set play to a Cowie goal. Although Cowie were making a valiant comeback Uni’s lead was too far ahead and a few missed opportunities sealed Cowie’s fate with half points and a final score of 24 – 21. Becky Gordon was the deserved man of the match for Cowie.
